Med appointment today for #multiplesclerosis. I’m so lucky to have the family medical leave act to back me up for the amount of time I have to take for appointments because of my #MS. How do folks without #FMLA manage? #chronicillness #pwms #familymedicalleave

How does FMLA work for that? I'm only starting to get familiar with FMLA for the birth of a child, and I still am a bit confused about it.
@MisterMadge Because I have a chronic neurological condition that requires me to take leave for appointments and occasional flare up, I fill out paperwork every year with medical provider and we submit it to HR. It’s kind of a standing order stating that I am able to take up to 3 consecutive days off twice a month to manage my MS, if needed. I have never had to use that much leave, but it’s a peace of mind.

Sorry, I meant how it works in terms of scheduling. I thought FMLA could only be taken in a single chunk (which seemed pretty unhelpful). Surprising that we actually have a helpful policy in the US.
@MisterMadge Because of the way my FMLA paperwork is written I can either schedule in advance for appointments, like today, or take time off ad hoc if I have a suddenly flare up. It’s remarkably easy.
@MisterMadge I can take it throughout the year. Whenever I need.
