People treat these as facts, but they’re what keep learners stuck! 🚩

I hear…
➡️ “More study = speaking will feel natural.” (Yet it only gets harder.)
➡️ “No immersion = no real progress.” (So they keep waiting… and never start.)
➡️ “I must read/write before speaking.” (Not if speaking is your goal! I’ve solved the ‘how’—just follow my steps.)

These aren’t just myths—they’re roadblocks. Once you learn differently, everything changes.

P.S. Sunday’s email will shatter what you thought about learning Hebrew. Comment “EMAIL” to get it! 📩

One of the most useful things I did was to take the Outlier course. Expensive, yes, but I'm a geek when it comes to learning how things work. Understanding this about Chinese characters not only helped me learn better but also helped me understand the logic, philosophical and historical reasons behind why each character was written this way.

@WTL Honestly I am able to stick to a talking heart rate only because I repeat sentences. It happens quite often that I have to slow down in order to give enough breath to the syllables I need to say.
The speech ability controls my running and that is what I find absolutely great. I have no time to think "this is boring" or "my pace is embarrassing, everyone goes faster than me!"

2️⃣ Even when I don't have time to study #Korean, I feel like I am not losing any progress. Moreover I've seen my pronunciation improve considerably, though I still get challenged by some words (like 깨끗핬으면 "kkekkeutasseumion" 😂)
3️⃣ Memory. It's hard to repeat long sentences in a foreign language and sometimes I say the first half but forget the second one. It's a good exercise to remember things we only hear once.

This is a post combining my two passions: #running and #languagelearning, specifically #Korean 🇰🇷

A while ago I started doing my easy runs while listening to Korean sentences. The audio I uploaded here is a sample from @tomikorean Grammar Book 2

Advantages:
1️⃣ Running slow in zone 2 gets easy because the focus is not on running, but on repeating sentences. If at any point I don't have enough breath to repeat a sentence, it means that I need to slow down.

Look, I know it doesn't mean DnD, but now I want to try to play some RPGs in one of the languages I'm studying. That could be a fucking LANGUAGE CLASS!

SPA 403 Conversational Spanish:

Me: Mi bardo intenta seducir al orco, cantando una canción de derramamiento de sangre bajo la luz de la luna.

Professor: Ok! Tira un d20 para tomar la iniciativa.

(My Spanish is not good enough for RPGs, that's mostly a Google translation, sorry.)

Hi Fediverse! My #Introduction - new here cause I'm missing the days of seeing art and humor all in one place without so much garbage. Some of my big interests are music (esp Japanese music), journaling/stationery, art...been considering getting into web dev lately as another hobby. I speak Japanese (more or less) and am LGBTQ! If any of that sounds cool, feel free to say hi 😄

Question for my fellow #AuDHD folx: Has anyone found a good anguage learning method you've been able to stick with? I seriously need to re-up and improve my #Spanish skills as sometimes I get folded into work conversations that started out in Spanish, and I'd like to be able to understand them better. I also feel like learning Spanish better would help me to understand the challenges my students face with English. Boosts welcome and appreciated. @ActuallyAutistic @ActuallyADHD

I just cancelled my Super Duolingo subscription and let my 759 day streak end. Not because I’m abandoning my learning but because I had noticed that I had stopped really learning in the interest of maintaining my streak and other gamification perks. I was avoiding difficult “assignments”, rushing through lessons, etc… I am still doing a daily practice but I keep track myself and focus on doing a good job, not earning whatever perk is being offered up.

Each weekend I listen to an episode of Ka Leo Hawaiʻi, which is usually 100% ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. Today for the first time there was an English segment, Ke Kumu, about five minutes discussing reduplication, it was fascinating! I recommend it. Start the audio and there is a mele first ~4 minutes, then the Ke Kumu segment for about 5 minutes, then a funny little reduplication-related song about the humuhumunukunukuapuaʻa! #reduplication #languageLearning #kaLeoHawaii ulukau.org/kaniaina/?a=d&d=A-K
